Stratigraphy & Tectonic Development of the Arabian Gulf
Course Duration: 2 days
Candidates: This course is valuable for all levels from fresh graduates to managers working in the exploration, development and production divisions.
Summary: The course aims to explain the tectonic development and the nature of stratigraphic units deposited in the Arabian Gulf region. The Arabian Gulf was affected to a great extent by a series of tectonic events that permitted the accumulation of thick, uninterrupted sedimentary sequences and stratigraphic units over a very large area of the Gulf.
Course Contents:
- Definition of the stratigraphic units in the Gulf.
- Stratigraphic framework of the northern & southern regions.
- Tectonic development of the Arabian basin.
- Major tectonic elements in the northern & southern regions.
- Influence of tectonic settings on oil generation, migration and entrapment.
Instructor: Dr. Mohamed Abou Sayed
Petroleum Geology of the Arabian Gulf
Course Duration: 2 days
Candidates: Geoscientists, petrophysicists and engineers, team leaders and supervisors as well as non-technical staff who wish to know more about the hydrocarbon potential of the Arabian Gulf and its future potential.
Summary: The structural configuration of the Arabian Gulf basin played an important role in the timing of hydrocarbon generation, migration and entrapment. The tectonic development of the Arabian Gulf permitted the deposition of extensive organic-rich source intervals, together with potential reservoir and seal rocks. This led to the accumulation of hydrocarbons in traps ranging in size from small fields to super-giant fields. Case studies from the Arabian Gulf will be discussed.
Course Contents:
- Stratigraphic and structural settings of the Arabian basin.
- Oil generation, migration in the basin.
- Entrapment of hydrocarbons.
- Potential reservoirs in the basin.
- Structural, stratigraphic and combination traps in the arabian gulf.
- Factors controling the distribution of oil & gas fields in the redion.
- Super-giant oil and gas fields in the basin.
- Field problems and development plans.
